St. Sebastian

Martyr and Witness of Courageous Faith

c. 256–288

Who Was St. Sebastian?

St. Sebastian was a soldier in the Roman army during a time of intense persecution of Christians. Though he served the emperor, he remained faithful to Christ and used his position to secretly support and encourage imprisoned Christians.

When his faith was discovered, he was condemned to death and shot with arrows. Miraculously, he survived and was later healed. Instead of fleeing, he boldly returned to confront the emperor and proclaim the truth of Christ.

For his courage and unwavering faith, he was ultimately martyred. His life stands as a powerful witness to fidelity, bravery, and the willingness to suffer for the Gospel.

St. Sebastian is remembered as a patron against plagues and illness, and as a model of strength in times of trial.
