St. Agnes

Virgin and Martyr of Pure and Courageous Faith

c. 291–304

Who Was St. Agnes?

St. Agnes was a young Christian girl in Rome who lived during a time of persecution. From an early age, she dedicated her life completely to Christ and chose to remain faithful to Him above all else.

Many sought her hand in marriage because of her beauty and noble character, but Agnes refused, declaring that she already belonged to Christ. Her commitment to purity and faith angered those who rejected her belief, and she was brought before authorities.

Despite threats and suffering, she remained firm in her faith. She was eventually martyred at a young age, becoming one of the most beloved witnesses of purity, courage, and devotion in the early Church.

St. Agnes is remembered as a symbol of innocence and strength, showing that even the young can live heroic holiness.
