Apostles and Witnesses of the Gospel
1st Century
Sts. Philip and James were among the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus. They left everything to follow Him and became witnesses to His life, teaching, death, and resurrection.
St. Philip is known in the Gospel for bringing others to Jesus, including Nathanael, and for his desire to know the Father more deeply. His life reflects a heart eager to lead others to Christ.
St. James, often called James the Less, served the early Church with dedication and leadership. He is associated with the Church in Jerusalem and is remembered for his strong faith and witness.
Both apostles spent their lives proclaiming the Gospel and are believed to have died as martyrs, remaining faithful to Christ until the end.
Their feast reminds us of the foundation of the Church built upon the apostles and their faithful witness.
Sts. Philip and James trusted Jesus and followed Him completely. They teach us to grow in faith each day.
They shared the Gospel with others. They remind us that every Christian is called to witness.
They remained faithful to their mission. They show us how to stay dedicated to God’s call.
They gave their lives for Christ. They encourage us to stand firm in our beliefs.
Sts. Philip and James remind us that the Christian life is one of following Christ and helping others come to know Him.
Their lives show that faith is meant to be shared. Like St. Mark the Evangelist and St. Peter Chanel, they dedicated their lives to spreading the Gospel.
They also remind us that we do not walk alone. The Church is built on the witness of those who came before us.
Their example calls us to follow Jesus faithfully, to share our faith with others, and to trust in God’s plan for our lives.
“Sts. Philip and James, help me to follow Christ and share my faith with courage and love.”
