Martyr Who Stood Firm in Truth and Faith
1946–1990
Bl. Benedict Daswa was a husband, father, teacher, and faithful Catholic from South Africa. He lived a simple life, dedicated to his family, his work, and his faith.
In his community, traditional beliefs in witchcraft caused fear and division. When lightning struck several homes, some villagers insisted on consulting a witch doctor and collecting money for rituals.
Benedict refused to participate, explaining that as a Christian he trusted in God alone. He stood firmly against superstition and chose to remain faithful to the truth of his faith.
Because of his refusal, he was attacked and killed. His death became a powerful witness of courage and fidelity to Christ.
Bl. Benedict stood firm even when it cost him his life. He teaches us to remain faithful to truth despite pressure.
He trusted God completely and rejected fear. His life reminds us to rely on God, not superstition.
He lived according to his beliefs without compromise. Bl. Benedict shows us how to live with honesty and conviction.
Bl. Benedict Daswa reminds us that faith sometimes requires difficult choices. His witness shows that following Christ means trusting Him completely, even when it is unpopular or dangerous.
His life also challenges us to reject fear and superstition, placing our confidence in God alone.
He encourages us to stand firm in truth, to live with integrity, and to trust that God is always present and faithful.
“Bl. Benedict Daswa, help me to stand firm in truth and trust in God alone.”
