9th Century
Sts. Cyril and Methodius were brothers from Thessalonica who became missionaries to the Slavic peoples. They are known for their dedication to spreading the Gospel in a way that people could truly understand.
They created an alphabet (the Glagolitic script) so that the Scriptures and liturgy could be translated into the local language. This allowed many people to hear and understand God’s Word for the first time.
Their mission was not without difficulty. They faced opposition and challenges, yet they remained faithful to their calling.
They are remembered as apostles to the Slavs and as models of evangelization rooted in respect, unity, and truth.
They brought the Gospel to new peoples. They teach us to share our faith with others.
They worked to unite different cultures in the Church. Their lives remind us to seek unity in Christ.
They continued their mission despite opposition. They show us how to remain faithful in challenges.
Sts. Cyril and Methodius remind us that the Gospel is meant for all people. Their mission shows the importance of making faith accessible and understandable.
They also highlight the beauty of cultural diversity within the unity of the Church.
Their example encourages us to share our faith, to respect others, and to remain faithful in our mission.
“Sts. Cyril and Methodius, help me to share the Gospel and live in unity with others.”
