Bishop and Martyr of the Early Church
c. 69–155
St. Polycarp was a bishop of Smyrna and one of the early leaders of the Church. He was a disciple of St. John the Apostle, making him a direct link to the teachings of the apostles.
He faithfully guided the Christian community and defended the truth of the faith during a time of persecution.
When he was arrested, he was urged to deny Christ to save his life. Instead, he boldly proclaimed his loyalty, saying that he had served Christ for many years and could not betray Him.
He was martyred for his faith, becoming a powerful witness of courage and fidelity to Christ.
St. Polycarp remained loyal to Christ until the end. He teaches us to stay firm in our faith.
He faced death without fear. His life reminds us to stand strong in difficult moments.
He remained faithful throughout his life. He shows us how to endure with trust in God.
St. Polycarp reminds us of the strength of the early Church and the importance of staying rooted in apostolic faith.
His witness shows that following Christ may require sacrifice, but it leads to eternal life.
He encourages us to remain faithful, to trust God, and to stand firm in truth.
“St. Polycarp, help me to remain faithful to Christ in all things.”
