Who Was St. James the Apostle?
St. James the Apostle, also known as James the Greater, was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus. He was the brother of St. John the Apostle and the son of Zebedee. Together, they were fishermen before being called by Jesus to follow Him.
James was part of Jesus’ inner circle, along with Peter and John. He witnessed important moments in Christ’s life, including the Transfiguration and Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. These experiences gave him a deeper understanding of both the glory and suffering of Christ.

Today, St. James is honored as a patron of pilgrims, especially those who travel the Camino de Santiago, a famous pilgrimage route in Spain associated with his name.
