Missionary Reformer and Apostle of Perseverance
1751–1820
St. Clement Mary Hofbauer was born in Moravia (modern-day Czech Republic) and longed to become a priest despite many obstacles. He worked as a baker and lived a humble life before finally entering the Redemptorist order.
He became a missionary priest and was sent to Warsaw, where he tirelessly served the poor, preached the Gospel, and built a vibrant Catholic community. His church became a center of prayer, education, and charity.
Political opposition eventually forced him to leave Warsaw. Despite repeated setbacks, he continued his mission in Vienna, where he influenced students, intellectuals, and future leaders of the Church.
St. Clement never saw the full success of his efforts during his lifetime, but his perseverance helped renew the Church in Central Europe.
He is remembered as a patron of Vienna and a model of missionary zeal, especially in times of discouragement and resistance.
St. Clement faced rejection and hardship but never gave up. He teaches us to remain faithful even when results are not immediate.
He dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel. His example reminds us to share our faith with courage.
He trusted God’s plan despite difficulties. He shows us how to rely on God in uncertain situations.
He served the poor and formed communities of faith. He teaches us to love others through action.
St. Clement Mary Hofbauer reminds us that success in God’s eyes is not always immediate or visible. His life shows that faithfulness matters more than recognition.
He worked in difficult environments where the Church faced opposition, yet he continued to evangelize with creativity and courage.
His example is especially meaningful for anyone working in challenging situations, feeling discouraged, or wondering if their efforts matter.
St. Clement encourages us to keep going, to trust God’s timing, and to remain faithful to the mission He has given us.
