Priest and Martyr of Charity
1900–1945
Bl. Richard Henkes was a German priest who lived during the time of Nazi persecution. He courageously spoke out against injustice and remained faithful to Christ despite great danger.
Because of his faith and opposition to the regime, he was arrested and sent to the Dachau concentration camp.
While imprisoned, he volunteered to care for prisoners suffering from a deadly disease, knowing the risk to his own life.
He eventually died from the illness, offering his life in service to others. His sacrifice became a powerful witness of love and charity.
Bl. Richard stood firm in truth despite persecution. He teaches us to defend what is right.
He gave his life to care for others. His example reminds us to serve with love.
