Mary’s Yes and the Mystery of the Incarnation
Solemnity of the Church
The Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the moment when the angel Gabriel appeared to the Blessed Virgin Mary and announced that she would become the Mother of Jesus, the Son of God.
Mary was troubled by the angel’s greeting, but she listened with faith. Gabriel told her not to be afraid and revealed that the Holy Spirit would come upon her. Through this mystery, the eternal Son of God took flesh in her womb.
Mary’s response, “Let it be done to me according to your word,” shows complete trust and surrender to God’s will. Her yes opened the way for the Incarnation and the salvation of the world.
This solemnity is celebrated nine months before Christmas, reminding us that Jesus’ earthly life began at the moment of His conception.
The Annunciation invites us to reflect on humility, obedience, trust, and the beauty of saying yes to God even when we do not fully understand His plan.
Mary trusted God even when the message was mysterious. She teaches us to believe that God’s plan is good, even when it feels beyond our understanding.
Mary freely accepted God’s will. Her yes reminds us that obedience is an act of love, not fear.
Mary did not seek greatness, yet God chose her for the greatest mission. She shows us that humility makes room for grace.
Saying yes to God required courage. Mary shows us how to move forward in faith even when the future is uncertain.
The Annunciation is one of the most important moments in salvation history. It is the moment when God entered human history in a new and intimate way, taking on our humanity in the womb of Mary.
This feast reminds us that God often works through quiet, hidden moments. The world did not see what happened in Nazareth, yet that hidden yes changed everything.
Mary’s response teaches us that our own yes to God matters. Even small acts of faith can become part of something much greater than we can see.
The Annunciation encourages us to listen for God’s voice, to surrender our plans to Him, and to trust that His grace is enough for whatever He asks of us.
“Lord, help me to say yes to Your will with the trust and humility of Mary.”
