The 10 Hallmarks of the Catholic Church by Lori Giovannini

LORI GIOVANNINI'S BOOK

The 10 Hallmarks
of the Catholic Church

Have you ever sat through Mass or heard a teaching of the Church and wondered why we believe what we believe? Perhaps there are parts of the Catholic faith you have followed for years but never had the chance to understand fully.

I wrote this book to share what I have learned about the faith I love. We will look at Scripture, the Eucharist, the Mass, the sacraments, the saints, and the other treasures of the Catholic Church, including where these beliefs come from and why they matter in our lives.

There is more to our faith than we may realize.

Many of us grew up Catholic. We learned our prayers, went to Mass, received the sacraments, and celebrated the feasts of the Church. We may know these practices well, but that does not always mean we understand their meaning or the history behind them.

I know how much there is to learn because I am still learning myself. The more I have studied the Catholic faith, the more I have come to appreciate its depth, its wisdom, and the gift Christ has given us through His Church.

That is what I want to share with you in this book. We will explore ten important parts of our Catholic faith and look at the reasons behind what the Church teaches. My hope is that you will come away understanding things that may have puzzled you for years, or discover something you had never thought to ask about.

You do not need a background in theology to read this book. Bring your questions, take your time, and enjoy learning more about the faith we share.

Why I wrote
this book

Over the years, I have had so many conversations with Catholic women about their faith. They love the Lord and want to grow closer to Him, but they also have questions. Some want to understand Church teachings better. Others want to know why we do certain things at Mass or how our Catholic traditions began.

Those conversations have stayed with me. Through The Happy Catholic Woman, I have had the privilege of listening to women's stories, learning from their questions, and sharing in their desire to grow in faith.

My own understanding of the Church has grown over the years, too. Studying alongside my husband, Lou, during his formation to become a Catholic deacon gave me many opportunities to learn more about Scripture, the sacraments, and the teachings of the Church. I came away with an even greater appreciation for the faith I had received.

I wanted to put what I had learned into a book that people could actually enjoy reading. Catholic teaching is rich and beautiful, but it can sometimes feel overwhelming when the explanations are complicated. I wanted to make these subjects easier to follow without losing what makes them important.

This book grew out of that desire. I hope it answers some of your questions, encourages you to ask others, and helps you see familiar parts of the faith with fresh understanding. There is still so much for me to learn, and I am happy to share some of that learning with you.

The 10 Hallmarks of the Catholic Church book

Ten parts of our faith, explored one by one.

The book covers ten important hallmarks of Catholic life, beginning with the Bible and the Eucharist and continuing through the Mass, the sacraments, Sacred Tradition, the saints, seasons and feasts, prayer and devotion, works of mercy, and the papacy.

Each chapter explores what the Church teaches and the reasons behind it, with Scripture, Church teaching, and practical explanations to help make the subjects easier to understand.

You can read the book from beginning to end or spend time with one chapter at a time. There are reflection questions to help you think about what you have learned and how it relates to your own life.

My hope is that you will not simply finish the book with more information, but feel encouraged to keep reading, asking questions, and learning about the faith we have received.
